Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and the Rio Grande Valley are some of the fastest growing areas in the United States. The temperate, year-round climate, a booming economy with renowned technology, business and health sectors, affordable housing and a relaxed, diverse culture have made these Central and South Texas areas very appealing for many families, especially those in the military, government, or working for border security.
All throughout Texas in Austin, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, there are military installations for the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Navy and Marine Corps. These cities, particularly San Antonio, also attract personnel from various governmental departments including the Border Patrol.
The following military bases and government agencies work in and around Austin:
The Army Futures Command Base in Austin was established last year and currently employs 500 people. This installation is similar to FORSCOM, TRADOC and Army Materiel Command (AMC).
However, this installation is different from other army bases in that it invests in technological innovations for future warfare readiness instead of immediate military preparedness. Billions in government funding has been poured into this military innovation project from the federal government.
Of these three cities, Houston has the fewest military bases. Its sole military base is an air station where medical helicopters, called Medivac, operate from as part of the coast guard. These medical helicopters are charged with patrolling the coast to rescue mainly civilians in danger.
San Antonio is home the largest number of military installations among the three south central Texas cities, including the oldest and largest Army base in Texas.
San Antonio is also the closest of the three cities to the US/Mexico border, which has made it a popular home for border patrol agents and their families. Most border patrol personnel, though, will more likely be stationed in the Rio Grande Valley. (More on that below.)
Of course, these cities are far from the only military locations throughout the state, and Dallas and Fort Hood certainly have their share of military installations.
Austin attracts regular visits from government officials ever year for the congressional session that runs from January until May.
Government and temporary military housing, such as furnished apartments in Texas, offer luxurious amenities, privacy and other perks that are hard to come by in extended stay hotels. Residology takes the hassle out of a temporary home search for government officials on a brief stay in the capital.
South Texas has become an area of national security, and Austin, Houston and San Antonio all have a healthy border patrol presence. Houston and San Antonio especially have become popular places for border patrol agents and their families to call home because of their close proximity to the US/Mexico border and the Gulf of Mexico.
The Rio Grande Valley, though, is where most border patrol activity takes place and where most of the personnel are sent to handle border issues. The Rio Grande Valley area in Texas, which includes McAllen, Edinburg, Mission, Pharr, Weslaco, Harlingen, & Brownsville, has six stations spread out across the border, two stations that act as traffic checkpoints, and one that handles marine operations in the Gulf of Mexico while backing up the other stations.
This sector operates 24/7, which means its staff can work some pretty irregular hours while stationed here. That, in turn, means quality, convenient housing options can make a huge difference for anyone assigned here.
Military families move around a lot and often don’t stay in an area for more than a few years. This makes home ownership difficult and the house buying process not worthwhile as a home is a long-term investment.
With military families constantly being relocated, temporary housing for Military family is a great option.
Government contractors, visiting Washington officials and others who come and visit for a few weeks or months to carry out their assignments can also take advantage of temporary housing.
For those relocating to any of these locations for a military, government or civilian military assignment or career, a temporary furnished apartment by Residology is a great and stress-free way for you and your family to quickly make these Texas communities your new home.
These apartments are move-in ready and don’t have the stressful home buying and selling processes. They’re also a good alternative to staying at extended stay hotels.
